The Old School Martini

We're going to stay on the cocktail train with this week's recipe. We enjoy a cocktail here and there in our house. But we tend to trend old school, using the fictional king and queen of cocktailing (our opinion) Nick and Nora Charles as our guides. By this I mean, we keep the cocktails to a reasonable size. When Nora blows in to the bar at the top of The Thin Man, towed by Asta and dropping parcels hither and yon, she doesn't order 5 8 ounce Chocolatinis to catch up with Nick. She gets 5 2ish ounce Martinis. Now, does she get a headache in the morning? Absolutely. But had she ordered those in modern sizes, she'd be dead. So, we like to keep them small too, but well made! So, without further ado, our Old School Martini inspired by the stars of our favorite Christmas movie (yes, The Thin Man is a Christmas movie), Nick and Nora Charles!
Old School Martini
2 ounces high quality gin
.5 ounces high quality dry vermouth
Ice
Garnish (your choice...I enjoy 2 large stuffed olives...)
Fill a couple glass with ice and set aside. Fill a cocktail shaker 1/3 to 1/2 full of ice. Pour 2 ounces of gin over ice, followed by .5 ounce dry vermouth. Put the lid on the shaker and shake vigorously 10-15 times. Empty ice from glass and put garnish in the glass (if using olives, roll the olives around the inside of the glass 2 or 3 times). Pour contents of shaker into glass and over garnish. Enjoy!
