No, I'm not talking about a whirlwind, week-and-a-half long home search. I'm talking about a podcast! And not just any podcast. It's a podcast built around a new musical, 10 Days in a Madhouse, written by Jennifer Hedstrom and Karen Saari--otherwise known as my spouse!
The musical, commissioned by Music Theatre of Madison, tells the story of investigative reporter Nellie Bly, who in 1887 had herself committed to the notorious Blackwell's Island insane asylum to expose the bad living conditions and abusive treatment the inmates received.
Obviously, I'm very proud to be able to help promote Karen's work. It's been a two year commitment to create and write this show, and she's done it while also pursuing her MFA in playwrighting from Augsburg College in Minneapolis. I'm not worthy.
