I've talked before about the native gardening we do in our yard. We have many reasons for this, but not the least of which was the hope of increasing the amount of creature diversity in our landscape. I am happy to report that we have achieved just that! This summer has seen a variety of bees, interesting moths (including both the cycropia and hummingbird moths), and birds. And yesterday we marked a new sighting...the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterfly! It joined the team of monarchs we have enjoying our rain garden this year (we've had up to 6 at one time).
FYI, if you are also interested in butterflies and what not, Wisconsin Butterflies is a cool site at which you can easily identify species and upload your own sightings. This sort of site is especially useful if you and your kids don't really know about anything but monarchs...like us. :)
