I am out of town right now on some family business, so posts may be fewer this week. But a friend posted about this on social media this morning, and I was inspired. As we approach the upcoming general election, the need for poll workers in our towns and cities is huge. Traditionally, poll workers tend to be aged 60 and above (often much above), as those members of our communities often are more likely have the time and ability to participate. But because of COVID-19, it's become much more risky for those individuals to participate, leaving a huge need in workers for this November's election. Power the Polls is a website that hopes to help alleviate this problem, working to recruit 250,000 poll workers nationwide.
As an election official in Madison, you get training and paid for your time (though you can choose to volunteer). I signed up last month for the first time ever, inspired by the fact that many of my neighbors have been poll workers but are also in the at risk age range. Plus, it feels good to participate in our democracy. So click the link above, sign up, and maybe I'll see you at the polls!
