Because I'm prone to being a supernerd, I subscribe to the monthly Urban Forestry Newsletter put out by the Wisconsin DNR. What can I say...I love trees.
As I was reading today's issues, this article really made my ears perk up. Apparently, the city of Cedarburg, WI has declared 2020 the year to focus on trees. And to help people do that, they've started tagging some of the 6715 trees that line the city's streets. And not just with the tree's type, but with the economic and ecological benefits the trees provide, including the amount of CO2 the trees removed and the amount of stormwater they captured (seriously, if you care at all about climate issues, you really need to start loving your trees...just saying...:) ). The trees were tagged in mid-August and the tags were there through Labor Day. And beyond the ecological impact, the tags (see an example below) helped residents see the other benefits of trees, including the beauty they provide our neighborhoods.
