Today, I'm featuring Jacques Pepin's Plum Galette. Jacques Pepin, the renowned French chef and longtime friend of Julia Child, is a fascinating character who's television shows have taught me more about cooking than I can remember. This recipe seemed like the perfect option this week, as it's the time of the year when we are seeing an influx of delicious fruit. Plus, I made it earlier this week with plums we picked are our house in the UP, and it was truly delicious. The ground almonds added a layer of complexity and flavor that really pushed this to the top of my dessert list. Add some ice cream and man...you'll eat the entire galette. You can also substitute basically any other fruit for plums.
Don't know what a galette is? It's a sort of rustic pie. Picture a pie without a pan, no top, and the edges just curled up around the fruit. Frankly, it's a great fruit dessert for those who are a little nervous about pie making. I threw mine together in about 15 minutes (minus time pitting the plums). You can too!
