As promised in the first post on this blog, I will post recipes occasionally in this space. Why? Well, concocting good things to eat and drink is a big thing in our house. And who doesn't like a new recipe?
Deciding what to include for the first go-round was something to ponder. Until I looked out of the window and saw the sun shining, a nice breeze blowing through the patio, and the bees buzzing in the flowers. I knew it had to be a summer cocktail. My wife Karen is a pretty accomplished amateur mixologist, and her gin & tonic is really top of the class. So I thought I'd share it with you so you can fix one, sit on your patio, and enjoy this gorgeous summer day. Because honestly, don't we all need to just enjoy a gorgeous summer day right now? We do. Karen's Insanely Good Gin and Tonic
1.5 ounces gin (whatever your favorite is. I prefer Citadelle, but just started trying Madison's own State Line and really like it)
.5 ounce of elderflower liqueur
.5 ounce of fresh lime juice
dash of bitters
Tonic
Garnish with a slice of lime
Shake or stir together the first 4 ingredients. Pour over the top of a tumbler or collins glass filled with crushed ice. Top with tonic, garnish with the lime, and enjoy. Perhaps turn on a baseball game while you watch the butterflies in the flowers. That's my preferred method. :)
