We go back to cocktails for today's recommendation. Because, really, who doesn't need a drink right about now?
A couple of Father's Day's ago, Karen got me The Classic & Craft Cocktail Recipe Book by Clair McLafferty as a gift. It's an amazing guide to the world of cocktails that any afficionado should have. And without it, I wouldn't have known about what is now my personal favorite, the Vieux Carre. Think a Manhattan in a tuxedo. It's really a fantastic drink. Salud!
Vieux Carre
3/4 ounce Rye
3/4 ounce Cognac (though we generally substitute brandy...because we're so 'sconnie...)
3/4 ounce sweet vermouth
1 splash of Benedictine
2 dashes of bitters
1 cherry, for garnish
In a mixing glass or shaker, stir the ingredients together with ice. Strain into a coupe glass. Garnish and enjoy!
