Last night, I did something for the first time.
I worked as an election official, aka poll worker, for the 2020 presidential election.
It would be an understatement to say that 2020 in general, and the election in particular, have been a stressful times for many. Not the least of which me. And the thought of waiting at home for the results, regardless of the quality or amount of alcohol available, was almost nauseating to me. Working the polls helped alleviate that feeling immensely.
Just being there with all these dedicated and eager people, working to help others participate in the most crucial action in any democracy. Voting. There was something truly special about taking such an active role our democracy. Even as we've been weathering increasingly tough times as a country over the last decade or so, to see that we can still pull off this crucial civic activity was heartening.
Seriously, you should try it.
I can't wait to do it again.
