If that headline sounds like gibberish to you, it's because you've never spent appreciable time with older folks in the Milwaukee, WI area. But that phrase was a regular one for my grandmother, whenever she wanted my grandfather to turn the thermostat up.
Living in a cold climate, you can probably relate to the idea that internal home temperature settings can be an area of strife for many families. Some family members advocate for sweater and throw blanket conditions. "I can always add more layers!" they chirp happily. Others glower and shiver even at temperatures bordering on an orchid greenhouse. It's a conundrum, and no mistake.
Luckily, there are recommendations you can fall back on to weather the furnace-focused storm! According to the US Department of Energy, 68 degrees is your magic number for efficiency and comfort, and the WHO recommends never letting it go below 64 while at home if you have small children or older folks living in your house.
Personally, I scoff at these recommendations! I'm a committed Nest-er, monitoring my smart thermostat like a hawk and working to build up as many monthly "leafs" that I can (if you have a Nest, you'll know what I'm talking about). I ride with 63 as often as I can get away with it. Sweaters and stocking caps all around!!
