When you spend as much time at home as we have over the last year or so, you find out things about each other. One thing that's become very clear is that our youngest son Ginn is not only an eager baker, but a pretty good one. He bakes a couple of times a week and even though he's only 8 1/2 already has pretty much free run of the kitchen, baking solo most of the time (though we still make ourselve available to assist with sticky issues or questions). We're thrilled he enjoys it so much, but we also want to ensure that he's working with recipes that are within his current skill set and likely to produce good results. Which is why we love the kids cookbooks America's Test Kitchen has produced. With easy to understand ingredient lists and recipes steps, combined with thorough testing and difficulty indications, these books are really fantastic resources for your young budding chefs.
This week's recipe recommendation is one from the Complete Baking Book for Young Chefs, Giant Chocolate Chip Cookie. This is a quick and easy recipe that can be started and finished in the time between coming home from school and dinner time. So dessert is all set! And your young baker will feel pretty good about themselves when everyone is eagerly devouring them.
